Heritage Canada symbolically recognized humour and comedy as an art form by highlighting the different funding programs offered through the department.

The government expressed in writing that stand-up comedians can apply for funding from the Canada Council for the Arts as theatre artists.

There have been ongoing discussions at a high-level about this issue, including between the Canada Council for the Arts and Heritage Canada. The government’s response opens the door for us to continue our work with the Council.

We look forward to our continued work with the Canada Council for the Arts and Heritage Canada and will continue until stand-up comedy is officially recognized as an art form in Canada.

We would like to thank everyone who took the time to sign the petition, electronically and on paper. This petition and its response mark an important step for stand-up comedy in Canada. CASC will need your help and support every step of the way. We will be posting our next goals soon!
